For questions about research in the period from 1501 to 1600.
When tagging a date:
- Use 16th-century for questions pertaining to the general period from 1501 to 1600 of the Julian and Gregorian calendars (see Note below).
- Use a decade tag, such as 1530s, if a question is primarily relevant only to a specific decade.
Note:
The 16th century began in the year 1501 of the Julian calendar, and ended in the year 1600 of the Julian or Gregorian calendar. Due to the introduction of the Gregorian calendar, there was a 10 day lapse in October 1582. Some countries and areas did not adopt the Gregorian calendar until much later.
