A suite of on-line tools and resources for genealogists provided free of charge by a private company owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Family Search is a private company owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is a central tenet of their (Mormon) faith that members learn about their ancestors who may have lived before the creation of the LDS Church and have them posthumously baptised into the Church.
As a consequence, the Church (through Family Search) creates copies of vital records from all over the world, converts them to digital form and presents them for searching. These resources and tools are made available free of charge to genealogical researchers outside the church.
The website of the same name permits access to scanned images and indexes to fully digitised records. There is also an extensive collection of reference works and training materials. From 2012, there is open access to an on-line recording and display tool called FamilyTree.
