I started to dig up my family tree over fifty years ago (when I knew nothing about parish registers and, as far as I can remember, didn’t know that there were such things as County Records Offices). I simply learned the business as I went along.

Although I have done my fair share of ancestor collecting, my main interest now is putting some flesh on the genealogy of my paternal grandfather. I am interested in the Tassell family of Balsham (especially evidence of wizardry, and Tudor field names), the Noble family in West Wratting, (both Cambridgeshire) and the Paxman family of Great Bradley, Suffolk. I am also interested in the Chauntry Croft area of Victorian Haverhill, Suffolk and, especially, instances of the poisoning of children in that nook.

I’ve a feeling that, in the next couple of years, I’ll become more and more interested in the fate of overseas emigrants from those families.

I consider myself to be a Portsmouth lad (I love the city) although for the past thirty years I have lived Market Harborough where my wife and I run a tiny secondhand bookshop, tucked away in the town centre. I hope you’ll visit my website malcolmnoble.com for more about my work.
